The story behind the band.

We recently played Sheffield with In The Black Midwinter Festival. Great gothy stompy fun. Check out this video we made to see some of the best moments of our set.

Thomas puts his body and voice on the front-line when he performs. It might be because he's an Australian performance artist, or because, alongside his writing, it’s the best weapon he has to galvanise an audience in protest. In his songs he tells stories of daily post-modern life in the post-industrial, commercialised and conflicted nation of Britain, and beyond.
As a lover of electro dance and hardcore, something about the experience of living in the European system of brutal control that oppresses so many people makes him sick in the head and compels him to write. The anger and austerity he feels when he writes is let loose on stage; it's a distinctive part of this subversive project which evolved in long term collaboration with Dean. His career in the entertainment industry lends a facade of charisma to the show, but in reality, Thomas is angry and the stage is not safe.
Dean hails from the motherland of British electro music, in Basildon of Essex, or near enough.
The brutal concrete town planning and numerous famous bands being an early influence in his lifelong love of electro music and informed the title of his other project, Brutalist Architecture in The Sun.
Known for being an electro DJ on BlueTown Electronica for over five years (now steaming online bi-weekly on artefaktor radio), Dean first earned his battle stripes in the late 80's and 90's industrial and rave scene. Brutalist Architecture in the Sun is his soft side. Ugly Nature is his harder side. And it needs to get out.
Critically acclaimed.
Ugly Natures' songs tackle post-modern problems and tell human stories of an inhuman system through the lens of Dean's beats, Thomas' writing and charismatically abrasive performance.
They are seriously an incredible powerful live act that are only seen to be believed. Frontman Thomas' incredible command of the stage and venue are utterly incomparable.
If you've yet to see them in action, take any chance you get. The music and performance are absolutely top notch.
